Andy Stanley advises pastors to do 3 things when preaching. 1. Engage
your audience! 2. Engage your audience! 3. Engage your audience!
What advice would he give parishioners (church members) about reaching
unchurched people?
This Sunday, we conclude our E.D.G.E. Words sermon series with a message about “Engaging Others.” What has and what will Edgemont do to engage with those in our community? What do you do to engage with friends and family about your faith and church? How do you engage others? Do you engage others about your faith and our Edgemont church?
One of the ways Edgemont engages unchurched and de-churched people ew people for Christ and our church. We can admit there are no easy answers in our post-modern world. But that fact doesn’t give us a get out of “engaging” free card. Preachers would tell you it’s more challenging to engage people with our sermons but that doesn’t mean we get to stop trying.
One of the ways Edgemont engages unchurched and de-churched people is through acts of service. We hope they will see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. (See Matthew 5:16) But what about engaging them through conversations and sharing our faith experiences?
What about telling them why we go to church and specifically, why we go to Edgemont. You have many choices other than not going and so do they. So why do you choose Edgemont to be the church where you attend? Our hope is that you and others will “Encounter Jesus,” “Discover
Purpose,” and “Grow Spiritually” at Edgemont and that’s the reason why you choose this community of faith. But we also hope that you follow Jesus by “Engaging Others.” Why not take a moment and prepare a short paragraph or two about your relationship with God and why Edgemont United Methodist Church is your church. Then share it with a neighbor
this week in a way that is so engaging, they want to know more.
